🎣 Herman Korthuis – King of the Swingtip and proud user of Feedergear products

Some fishermen grow up with a fishing rod in their hand. Herman Korthuis , born on 22 February 1969 in Emmen, is a perfect example of this. He was already standing on the water's edge at the age of three, and at the age of seven he caught his first carp with a fixed rod. That was the beginning of a lifelong passion for fishing - one that has since earned him national and international recognition.

🐟 From young enthusiast to swing tip specialist

Until he was 17, Herman experimented with all kinds of fishing: predatory fish, carp fishing and whitefish. In the early 80s, he was fascinated by a relatively new technique: fishing with a swingtip . In 1985, the first winkle pickers appeared on the market, and that was the beginning of his specialization.

Only he built his own feeders, experimented with sensitive tips and perfected his techniques.

In Hét VISblad of June 2025, Herman was even proclaimed King of the Swingtip . He demonstrated his approach at Plas Yde de Punt, where he showed how subtle bite registration with a swingtip results in magnificent catches, such as bream and even tench.

🏆 International coach and rod developer

In 1988 Herman started competitive fishing and that grew into an international career. In 1992 he met Jouni Lillman from Finland, which led to a long period as coach of Team Finland . His first World Championship as a coach took place in 1994 at the Holm Pierrepont rowing course in England. He coached Finland until 2007 and travelled all over Europe as a fisherman and coach.

He was sponsored by brands such as Sensas , BBI Travel and Maver and was present at trade fairs at home and abroad. For Maver he worked on the development of feeder and match rods - knowledge that still lives on in his fishing style today.

💪 Fishing as recovery

Between 2010 and 2020, Herman suffered from severe neck problems and underwent five operations. Fishing gave him peace and strength to continue. During that period, he developed his signature approach: Extreme Feeder Fishing , focusing on carp fishing with the feeder.

He started filming to share his knowledge. In 2018 he came into contact with the Top-Baiter , which he promoted in the Netherlands and England. In 2020 he introduced the Mini Top-Baiter at the fishing show The Big One in the UK.
